About
the artist: Tyler Pierce is a
Tucson artist who grew up on a working cattle ranch near Prescott, Arizona. Frequent
visits to the Prescott area, as well as sojourns near Tucson, provide the inspiration
for his dramatic interpretations of the natural environment. Working
out of his home studio, Tyler builds his paintings from raw materials to finished
work, often working on several paintings at once. The formal aspects of each painting
are simplified and augmented using expressionist and impressionist techniques.
A strong believer in the reflexive nature of art, Tyler allows each painting to
evolve beyond the original image or concept, often resulting in unique expressions
of color, rhythm and light. Artistic influences
include John Axton (Santa Fe), Georgia O'Keeffe, Ed Mell (Phoenix), and William
Matthews (Denver). In addition to these renowned artists, Tyler owes much of his
artistic understanding to his father, Craig Arbon, whose own art has shown widely
in the Tucson area. More of his works can be seen at http://mosgallery.com.
Tyler is also a member of the Board of Directors of Amaterra. He
